why wont the islanders put him on LTIR?? I thought it was almost a forgone conclusion he is gonna go LTIR, there is no way he just retires and gives up 11 mil.

" The Isles will not be able to put Grabovski on long term injured reserve."

Why not? I'm pretty sure they can once the season starts

Honestly, his skill set was just as good as Barzal's if not better. Like you said its all about his attitude and maturity now. I agree about MDC who really knows at this point

Just bumping this up to the new thread.

Barzal and Ho Sang are a little extra important to me because they're both RH shots and we are severely lacking at that position on this roster.

I agree. I'm excited to see what these two can offer.

On a human level i hope Grabovski gets healthy regardless of what that means for hockey. But on a hockey level people need to start watching the games more and analyze stats less. Grabovski is not a useful player. i could care less how many shots are supposedly generated on net while he is playing. If you watch the games there are 2 realities. He either 1) hung onto the puck too long missing passing/shooting opportunities very much like Comeau or 2) if an opposing player initiated any physical contact at all, Grabs would lose the puck which would skew his offensive zone time as the puck would be loose in feet killing time after he coughed it up. You don't needs stats, charts, or graphs to see this, you only need your naked eye.

I truly hope he gets healthy but if i never saw him wear orange and blue again i would be ecstatic. He gets my vote as the worst move of Snow's tenure, but even at that we were still at a point where we had to overpay to bring people in.

I think the LTIR part was just poorly worded. But essentially there is no benefit to putting him on LTIR until the Isles are over the cap. So I would suspect he doesnt go on LTIR unless they need the cap space

Grabovsky will be put on LTIR. He won't retire as that would require him to forfeit the remaining monies owed to him on his contract.

I don't want to be rude but are you qualified to blog if you don't understand these basic CBA issue's?

That's not necessarily true.

LTIR'ing Grabo would let the Islanders spend over the cap in the amount that Grabovski's contract would cause them to exceed the upper limit.

The cap upper limit is $73M for this season. Just for simplicity's sake, let's say the Islanders are exactly $2M under the cap, or at $71M in AAV payroll.

Grabovski's cap hit is $5M annually.

So, under these parameters, the Islanders would be allowed to spend $3M over the upper limit of the cap for the duration of Grabovski's stay on LTIR.

Yeah, but there's no benefit to not putting him on LTIR either. Not that it really matters either way, but if they are expecting him to miss the entire season then I don't know why they wouldn't just LTIR him and get it over with.

Because teams dont get the cap relief from LTIR until they exceed the cap.

Ok but what downside (if any) is there to putting him on LTIR as of now?

Essentially it boils down to them being able to add more salary to maximize the relief possible. If they think he will come back or dont actually want to spend the money then it really doesn't matter.

On a serious note, i see the Rangers selling at the trade deadline this year and starting over. I think its finally happening, where they dont have much in the way of prospects, not to mention Henrik is rapidly approaching expiration.

I watched only the Canada v US game and everytime they went to the US bench i was looking to see Cappy and which horrific neck tie he had on. He didnt make the TV once (that I saw). Was he actually on the bench???
